ANU Montevideo (CLV-1934)
The Uruguyan Navy being so small, every ship in it had to be a multi-role vessel. The Montevideo was no exceprion. Ordered from Germany in 1930 the design of the ship entailed part seaplane carrier, part cruiser and part training ship. The Montevideo was also the fleet flagship.
This was the perfect ship for the Uruguyan Navy and it was still in service in 1980 which showed the longevity of the design. With 3 triple 5.9" turrets forward and eight single 4.1" AA guns the ship was well armed for its roles. Up to5 aircraft could be carried but the normal complement was three.
