Inglewood Golf Club Shootout 2024

Because I have spent most of this year out of golf with knee problems, I get
asked to do odd things when both the President and Captain are involved. This
year I was asked to run the Clubs 'Shootout' competition.
I was determined to introduce a new dimension to the shootout. I managed to do
this on the 15th hole.
Shootout 2024
This years shootout started on the 10th tee in what looked like deteriorating
conditions, the weather held with just a couple of showers keeping things
interesting. Nineteen intrepid golfers teed off on the 10th with some
interesting shots played, the most notable was a low shot through the shrubbery
and just missing Basils Ball by Rod Clough which resulted in a remarkable par on the
hole.

With a few players finding difficulty on the 10th Derek Miles and Jason
Ballantine found themselves the first out after Jason lost a putt off against
Aaron Burgess.
Three players were to be eliminated on the 11th hole. As is often the case,
the top qualifier, Callum Smith, finding an early exit.
Chris Hill and John Christini (the last two players to
get 2 shots on the 12th) also went out on the 11th.
14 players got 1 shot on the 12th, the number 1 stroke hole, and that proved
to be difficult for Derek Spurdle and Lyle Smart, both getting eliminated.
The remaining field of 12 set off on the 13th with the drive of the day going to
Peter Joseph with a great drive 30m short of the green on a par four.
Not so
good were Chris Reynolds and Pecos Broughton, out on the hole reducing the field to
10.
I got to spend my day driving around in a golf cart. Above is the 13th green. I
am third to the right of the cart in black windbreaker and black and white
shorts.

both eliminated on the hole.
14th green with Chris Smith making a good putt to keep him in the Shootout for
another hole. Trev Terry and Shaun Hitchcock went out on the 14th. Trev is in
the grey top watching.
The15th hole started with another creative shot off the tee by
Rod Clough as he nearly took out some of the opposition, shanking his ball to
just off the 14th green. Rod was eliminated on this hole. The hole gave
the largest number in a tied score situation. Of the eight players that started
the hole, Rod was out with too many shots before he even got to the green. Cliff
Edgecombe was the only player to par the hole and got automatic exemption to the
next hole. The other six all ended up with nett fours on the hole and one would
need to join Rod in the elimination group. This resulted in another putt off but this
time they had to use their drivers to putt with, this proved trickier than most
expected but in the end Chris Smith joined Rod Clough leaving after the 15th.
Three holes remaining. Down the 16th, though Peter didn't like the rest of us
and went down the 15th fairway.
With 6 players still in, it was Peter Joseph and
Mike Crofskey who went out at that hole.
Aaron Burgess, Steve Wood, Cliff Edgecombe, and Daylen McArthur, the final four. Aaron was the only player not to par the 17th hole, with the other three
chipping off for the final two spots.
All chips were close to the pin with
Daylen and Steve getting the closest.
Steve Wood and Daylen McArthur played the 18th hole. Both
had good
drives, neither player made the most of their drives for their second
shots.
Both ending up reaching the green in three. In the end Daylen McArthur had
a five on the hole, edging out
Steve Wood, who had a six, to take out the Shootout for 2024.
