KM Bremse (ML-1930)
Back to Germanic States Navy page:
The Germans had always had an eye for offensive minelaying and had built ships purposefully for that task. The previous Bremse and Brummer had been seized by the Allies and sold off (to Argentina) the monies going to the reparations payments. The next pair of minelayers to be built were based on the latest destroyer class, with a mine deck added.
These were fast ships making 34 knots with a full load of mines and nearly 36 on the way home. Only destroyers and later aircraft could intercept these ships. They were armed accordingly.
