At least we won the beer.
Another day of no better than middling scores. A familiar four with Chris and
Bob versus the two Niges'. At least one of the Nige's had a good day.
Unfortunately it wasn't me. Nigel Weir ended up with 39 points for the day that
got him into 3rd place. My support act got us to the finish line for winning the
beer on the 16th hole. Should have been sooner if I could have played better.
One of the few pars I managed for the day was on the Par 3 second hole.

Seems that my play is being dictated by the state of my bodies aches and pains.
If I do yard work on the day before I play then I am not in the fantastic
condition I should be to make a good score. Such was Wednesday. Having done
things round the house, getting ready for a visitor on Thursday, I was feeling
it a bit on the Wednesday. By the time I unloaded the buggy and got to tee off
the back and knees were already complaining. I still managed a mediocre front
nine of 42 shots for 15 points. Coming to the 10th tee, our team having won the
ninth (two up at the turn), I told myself that a good back nine would get me in
the money, 'focus!'. Then promptly put my tee shot into the middle of the creek
50 meters in front of us. The back nine did not get any better and I ended up
with 45 shots for 12 points.
What was interesting was how my handicap has behaved over the last few weeks.
Having the three good scores dropped me five shots from 16 to 11. The handicap
system works on the best eight scores of your last 20 scores. Sitting in my last
20 scores at number 19 had been my last good score in April a 77. That dropped
off the bottom after my last round and my handicap bounced from 11 to 13. Did
not help my golf much, but my score for the day could have been worse.
My visitor roared up on Thursday. There is a Moto Guzzi rally in New Plymouth
for the long weekend. Enjoy it Dave!
