HMS Vengeance (CL-1939)
Back to Special Cruiser Projects List:
The Vengeance and its sisterships were built in response to the USN Brooklynn
class and the Japanese Mogami class, both of which were armed with 15x6" guns.
They followed the same layout as the Brooklynn class with three turrets forward
and two aft. (which is different to the
Melbourne Class in the Royal Commonwealth Navy.)
I am not a fan of this layout. For me the loss of the 'C' turret being able to
train either directly ahead or aft reduces it to a broadside only weapon. But I
have never drawn this layout in a Commonwealth cruiser before, so I was happy to
draw it to compare with the other drawings I have done.
