The rebuilding of the Ralambo and Andriananjavonana type ships brought 30 x 5.5" guns into the Lemurian armoury that could be used to build new ships. It was decided that those ships would be three cruisers with 10x5.5", other options had been destroyers with 5x5.5 or 6x5.5, but the 5.5" was a low angle weapon not really fit for modern destroyers. The cruisers would be just fine.
The three ships completed in 1943-44. On completion the ships were assigned to the long range escort groups. Sierra Leone to South Africa, South Africa to Perth, Perth to Singapore (from 1944). It had been decided that the ships would be wasted being tied to the Fleet where when operating with convoys the ships would be the Escort commanders ride. Also being fitted with aircraft they could provide some form of air patrol around the convoys they were with which would not normally have an escort carrier assigned to it. The ships would complete their wars undertaking these duties.
On return to Lemuria, they were assigned to the Eastern Coastal Force command, where they would patrol the coast of Lemuria and out into the Indian Ocean. The ships did this work till 1955 when they were offered for sale. What made them of interest to the minor navies was that they still had the aircraft handling facilities. Plenty of those countries also had long coastlines that required constant supervision. Mexico bought two of the ships and the last went to Ecuador. All three ships served into the 1970's before they were discarded and scrapped.
