Back out with the old farts today, first time I had played with the Duckhook boys for quite a while. Decent four players to be a part of. Gordon Bint (play pennants with) was the low handicap on a 9, then came Chris Smith on an 11, then me on a 15, and lastly Harley Simpson on a 30 something. At 86 Harley does well to still be out there and is one of the clubs lifetime members. You just have to keep an eye on him as he tends to forget the odd shot when counting his score for the hole. It was Smithy and me against the world again. We had played together recently.

I couldn't complain about the weather today. Clear and fine with a light wind. Even my golf was slightly better. But only slightly. 'Must do better' had not quite kicked in.

I think making par on the first hole is bad for me. I have done that the last couple of rounds and fallen apart thereafter. Today was no exception. My day was three shots better than my last two rounds, which does not sound much but gave me hope. Especially since I was playing injured, again.....

My left hip has been playing up since I last filled a 9kg LPG bottle. They get heavy, and if not handled correctly can cause a bit of physical stress. Which is what I think I may have done to myself. Playing golf, when your body is not responding well, can be quite annoying. The shots which are normally easy to play become difficult. Shots that are supposed to go straight go left instead. Allow a little bit for that, and you guessed it, a long way to the right. Quite exasperating.

I played okay through to the 16th hole when movement, like walking and turning, became quite painful. Just as well I have the buggy. I would have gone home a long way before 16 if I had had to walk it. Oh well I will have Wednesday off and see how I am for Saturday.

The match was played in good spirits and we turned, after the first nine, two up. Then went on a great run and lost the next four. I had a bad trot of three and Chris one. Then the worm turned and we won the next two. All square after 15. We won 16, one up. Halved 17. One up, one to play. Halve or win the hole and the beer was ours. We both had 5's on the hole for a total of four points. Harley had a 6 for 2 points. Gordon was left with a 2 meter putt for the win. Never in doubt, straight into the hole, well done Gordon. Halved march, buy your own booze the order of the day.

Tale of the tape today:
29th of 36. Winner had 42 points, I had 30. I am getting closer to the top!! Last round was three pars, today was four!

Life is full of ups and downs, and this is just another hurdle to overcome. The day was fine and I enjoyed being out in the warmth. Not a bad trade for a bit of pain.

Looking back down the 6th hole from the front of the green. Is it surprising those of us who live in Taranaki, call it Taradise.
