The Red Buggy Gets Some Upgrades.
Playing in the sun in NZ can be interesting. The Buggy having a black seat gets
quite hot between shots. So much so that when I sit on it, it has burnt my bum
and back. As Winston Churchill would have it "Action This Day" was required. It
took a little bit more than a day but I eventually found a couple of pieces of
'faux' sheepskin at our local Hospice shop. Grand price of $5.00. Couple of bits
of elastic to hold them in place and voila, problem fixed. Much nicer to sit on
too!
The next problem to fix was when proceeding at speed over the course, if I hit
to severe a hole/bump the basket and/or golf bag would jump up and off the
buggy, leaving a trail of death and destruction of golf equipment behind it. The
golf bag jumping off should not of happened as the Velcro strap should have held
but didn't. Got out an old leather belt which cured that problem. The belt being
long enough I could turn it back on itself to hold the umbrella in place when
not in use. Two for one. To stop the basket jumping off its mounting needed a
bungee cord.

My last Golf-log finished with us eating well for Xmas from the Golf Clubs Open
Xmas Hamper. Since then I have played in several tournaments where helping to
pay for the prizes has been my lot.
The Davis Cup (15/11) is an interesting tournament played over 27 holes using
all three tees. Blue (weekend), White (midweek), and Yellow (ladies). Takes some
getting used to as you play the Blue and Yellow off the same front nine holes
but from very different lengths of hole. I ended up second equal but a very
distant 8 shots behind the Winner, Daylen Macarthur. Great round Daylen! Only
the winner gets a prize. Not good enough.
Next in line was the Club Xmas Hamper (22/11). Another chance to stock up the
larder for Xmas. Surprisingly I scored exactly the same as in the Open Hamper,
but where that score got me in the prizes, this time I missed by a couple of
shots. Somebody has to pay for the prizes and I would be one of them this time.
I went back to the elderly gentlemen with the Duckhook tournament (24/11) where
I had the same score as I had in the two hampers. Again it was a couple of shots
shy of where I would need to be to get in the prizes.
If nothing else I can say I have been playing consistent rounds of golf. I am
missing the flashes of brilliance you need to get your score from average up to
prize winning level. A few more pars and the odd birdie or two would help a lot.
