GRN Montenegro (DD-1932+)
The Montenegro's were one of the more important classes of ship built at the Constanta yards. Construction of these handy little ships started in 1929 with the final completed unit coming out in 1943. Two other units were not completed till post-war. These were the first modern destroyers built by Galicia and proved excellent value for money for them. At 305 feet they were not big, about the same size as the UK VW type, but mated with the twin 5.3" guns they were far superior to most other destroyers being built at the time.
With the small size of the ships for the amount of armaments shipped, something had to be sacrificed and that was a bit of engine power. Where the common speed for destroyers being 35/36 knots these ships dropped a couple of knots to 33/34 to allow them to carry the extra weaponry.
