HMS Erebus (Mon-1916)
Back to Commonwealth Ships List
The Erebus and Terror were two of the oldest ships to still be undertaking frontline missions. Based in the Mediterranean both ships diced with enemy aircraft and surface forces while supporting the seaward flank of the Army. With the sinking of the Royal Oak and the loss of Terror two new ships were ordered to keep up the numbers of what had always been useful ships.
Above shows the Erebus as she came out of WW1. During the next 20 years various bits of light AA were added along with new gun ranging equipment which made the main armament more accurate.
