HMS Invincible (BB-1930 (1940-mod))
Back to Commonwealth Ships List
I had some spare time and since everybody loves a big gunned battleship I figured my idea of the UK N3 design might be worth a few hours kitbashing.
The Invincible like the Nelson class was to be a class of 4 ships, two Nelsons got finished while one Invincible was finished in secrecy at a Belfast yard. The failure of the 1930 Treaties to be ratified by the signatories legitimised the Invincible and until the completion of the Yamato class these were the biggest battleships in the world.
With nine 18" guns in three triple turrets it outgunned any other battleship in the world. With heavy armour, huge power plant and many many AA guns it was designed to survive in any environment. The original secondary armament (16x6") was removed and replaced with the 4.5" dual-purpose turrets of which 6 were fitted per side for a total of 24 barrels. This refit from 1938-1940 brought the ship right up to date with the new systems that had been invented since the ship was completed in 1930.
